I’ve been using this app for at least 6 years and I’m amazed at how well the developer has continued to support and improve it. Math Ref was worth a lot more than the 2 or 3 bucks I originally paid for it, and it’s only gotten better since then The developer should add a tip jar so us long-time users can continue to support them.
It’s a nice reference source for those who already know a subject. If you have a background in, say, trigonometry, and you know that a certain formula exists but can’t quite remember what it looks like, then this is a useful reference. I don’t think it is meant to be a learning tool. If you have no idea about trigonometry, for example, this won’t do you much good. This runs on a tablet but is really meant only for a phone. On my iPad everything is confined to the left-hand one-third of the screen leaving the rest of the screen blank. Maybe not a problem for most people, but I use my tablet more than my phone so that is kind of disappointing.
It's just an organized collection of formulas. If you keep encountering hard to understand mathematical concepts explained in impenetrably arcane mathematical jibber-jabber, look elsewhere. This app is for those who already have a deep understanding of mathematics. Just once, I'd like to see an app writer come up with one that lets the rest of us on board by explaining concepts in plain language, using analogies, animations or whatever else it takes to help the rest of us break through.
I'm a pre-med student and this app helps out a lot when it comes to consolidating the eq. I need when doing homework and practicing / solving problems in calc-based physics etc. It also goes all the way back to pre-algebra for those needing to refresh!
As a software engineer, I find myself using this app often as a quick reference for questions in statistics, calculus, and physics when I'm working on a variety of problems. I've been using it for about 4 years, and haven't looked back. In fact it gets better and better with updates. Always the first app I install on my iPhone.
As a computer engineering student and math tutor, I find myself using this app all the time. I've recommended it to multiple friends who have also loved it. The layout is very smooth and the presentation is appealing. It's also fairly intuitive to find what I'm looking for. As to improvements, I would really really like to see a section where I can add my own equations and categorize then for easy access. If it had keyboard that allowed me to access some of the special characters such as the Greek alphabet that would be nice too. I would also like to see a slightly easier to read format on some of the equations as they tend to spill over to the new line which makes it a bit hard to read. Other than that, well done guys. A beautiful app!
As a math teacher, I recommend this application to many students. I like the wide array of formulas present. Moreover I think the problem solvers are topnotch and offer help to most undergraduate students. I would recommend this app. thanks
Hi Dr.JEL, Full disclosure, this is the developer of the app. Sorry the app isn't loading for you and I'd love to help with that. As for the reviews, they only show for the current version and since the app was just updated none show up. Really like to help you so I hope you can reply by emailing me at chris[at]happymaau[dot]com.
This was a decent app, but the new update won't load and freezes my iPhone, so I was forced to delete it. A little suspicious how long this app has been out and there are supposedly not enough reviews to calculate an average for a rating. You only need 2 numbers to make an average. Also, there are no reviews,...hmmm? If this review doesn't get posted, I will resort to blogging, along with screen shots. Dr. Lewis
This is like carrying your linear algebra, geometry, trig, calc, differential equations, and matrix algebra textbooks in your pocket! If you can remember all those topics, their courses, and specific applications, then skip this app (😛)
Useful for grade school math through linear algebra / integral calculus. Great interface too. Love this app!
I paid for pro and can't access the favorites I think it's kinda messed up to sell a feature and then not have it work. I love the app it's amazing but it needs an update and as others have said ability to input user formulas would be awesome but please fix the favorites!
Hello . I have bought great tips in this app but there is no change in my app.
I've only owned this app 15 minutes and already I am very impressed. I can tell that in my role as a modeling analyst I will call upon this application frequently! Well done!
The recent changes are very good. What this app needs now is a formula editor so you can write your own theorems and handy formulas to keep them with you. Add that feature and i would gladly pay for it.
A friend of mine recommended me to get this app, and my was this worth the investment! The developers deftly managed to condense the most essential of maths and physics into one convenient app. But, granted, I think the app needs a name change, in order for this app to not appear limiting. Before I bought this app, I thought there were only math related notes and such, but there physics things, financial doodads, pleasant surprises like the prime numbers and so much more. There are also other tidbits worth mentioning, like having a quadratic solver, a triangle solver, etc. That said, I'd like some things to be added, or at least tweaked, like e.g. In the quadratic solver, the answer are given in decimals; it'd be great if you added an option to express them in their full notation, as in 1/2 +sqrt(3)/2i. In the triangle solver, I'd recommend an option to express angles in minutes and seconds as well. Just in case, check for some spelling or context errors, because I remember I spotted one in the financial section. One last thing I want to point out is what I disliked when you guys overhauled the app for iOS 7 was that everything was 'expanded out', in the sense of that the sections were like in this opened state displaying their content. It would be less of a hassle to list the sections, and make us tap them to reveal their contents, for the sake of organizing.
This app has just about every formula that a Math/Science/Computer Science student ever need! I find that the formulas are quite useful for brushing up on my forgotten Math/Calculus/discrete.
I want to marry this app. It has EVERYTHING I need and more. Extremely organized, and often interactive!
This app is great! It's very well organized and easy to use.
Very well done. Better than my ti84
Just what I need. Comprehensive & highly useful. Thank you.
I look forward to the update that includes la Place and Fourier Transforms.
Great reference.
Very handy and helpful when working on math problems.
I'm a high school student in AP calculus and AP physics and this app never disappoints when I need a quick references. It has everything from basic algebra, unit circle, trig identities, to calc derivatives, integrals, series and much more. it also has a handy unit converter feature. Great work!
Very solid app, well made, has excellent information on a very wide array of topics from finance to physics to algebra. Everyone can find value in it.
This is arguably the most comprehensive math formula reference app out there. The developers are also open to critique, and reply to emails about it almost quickly with legitimate feedback, no automatic reply B.S. If they add all of the features some of the reviews below me have requested the app would be something every serious mathematically minded person would have to have on their iPhones.
Bravo!
An excellent reference for those of us needing basic (and even some advanced) formulas and a quick reference on the go.
I had reviewed the previous version and noted how wonderful the iPod/iPhone version was - a great job given the small screen real estate. However, the iPad version continues to baffle me with the fraction of the screen it allocates for formulae. When I'm using the iPad I STILL want to find the formula I'm after quickly, so presenting the formulae on only one third of the screen is daft in my opinion. I do appreciate that the developers are adding the ability to augment a given formula with user comments and the like, but 99% of the time all I want is quickly locating the formula I'm after yet the majority of the screen is sacrificed for all this other low yield stuff. How about using **ALL** the screen real estate for the formulae and if I'm interested in seeing a bigger version of the equation or adding my own comments then I just tap on that equation and then something intuitive happens. A great addition would be pinch/zoom in case you find the formula was a little too small to read.
Replaces my math and chem book!
Comprehensive, customizable. Add two boobs and it'd have everything I need to be happy in life.
Perfect reference, you always have it with you when you forget something.
I bought this app to help me with geometry ... It has only descriptions but no figures! It's useless to me. I really want my money back! don't need an app to do that to just read what congruent means, i want to see it! I can get better help googling term by term!
Love this App!!!
enjoy the thoughtful presentation, very sleek & handy
I always keep this app open during any math related subject.
Perfect for the closet math geek
Great work. Puts all these formulas in one place, very convenient. I hope to see this app continue to expand
As a reference, it displays pretty much any definition, law, and formula you'll need to know. But it only gives the laws themselves and a few tips. No detailed explanations of concepts or lessons on how or why. Still, it's very useful. BTW, a typo on Chemistry - Atoms - Electrons ;)
Seriously.
Very well organized and very informative. Best app for a great revision and quick reference.
Use this all the time for remembering formulas
Much useful info, but the Mean Value Theorem statement is not complete.
I find the app very useful, but there are several spelling errors, which can be temporarily confusing, and somewhat annoying to see over and over again - for example, in the Probability & Statistics section, they spell the word "trial" as "trail", and spell "rely" as "relay" - it would appear that English is a second language for the developers. In any event, if you don't mind some recurring typos, you might find this app very useful.
I don't usually write reviews, but when I do it's because it's epic! Well done!
My favorite math reference ap. Recent update improved aesthetics and ease of use. Haven't seen anything in print or online with so much useful info.
I love this app. Helped me remember formulas. It would be much better if graphing tool is included.
Love the update.
